Laser Eyelid Surgery

Sagging skin and lines around the eyes are a dead give away that your body is aging. No amount of exercising, dieting, or expensive creams can stop time from marching across your face. However, with modern laser eye surgery methods, you can look more youthful and reduce the signs of aging eyes.
As our body ages, skin begins to sag and create extra folds of flesh–particularly in the eye area. As we age, fat from behind the eyeball tends to move forward, creating puffy bags under the eyes. Puffy eyes can make one look fatigued and can cause vision problems, if severe enough. Laser eyelid surgery, or laser blepharoplasty, is quickly replacing traditional eyelid surgery in restoring more younger looking eyes and face.
Laser eyelid surgery is performed by a plastic surgeon. A carbon dioxide laser is used during surgery to remove extra folds of skin from the upper eyelids or remove baggy pouches underneath the eyes. Laser eyelid surgery is considered outpatient surgery, usually taking only a couple of hours to complete. Local anesthesia can be used–along with sedation–making you partially awake. If general anesthesia is used, you will sleep through the entire operation. Either way, the laser eyelid surgery will be painless.
Following the laser eyelid surgery, a few hours will be spent in the hospital’s recovery room. There, you will be monitored for unusual bleeding, swelling or vomiting. After a few hours, you will be sent home with after-care instructions and pain medications. Be sure to follow the surgeon’s instructions and notify them if complications arise. Sunglasses and ice compresses can help speed recovery time at home.
Having any type of surgery is serious business. Do research before deciding upon a qualified plastic surgeon to perform your laser eyelid surgery. Choose a surgeon who practices cosmetic surgery full-time. Speak with the surgeon’s nurse to find out about number of laser eyelid surgeries performed, education, and how long they have been in practice. Make sure the surgeon is board certified or board eligible in Plastic Surgery. A hospital in your area can provide you with a list of physicians who meet this requirement. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons may also be of further assistance.
Laser eyelid surgery can help restore a more rested, youthful look on your face. Taking years off your face is also risky business, so be sure to find a qualified plastic surgeon with an abundance of plastic surgery credentials. With laser eyelid surgery, you can expect bruising and incisions that will eventually fade away. If unexpected symptoms arise, be sure to contact your surgeon.
