Laser blepharoplasty is a cosmetic surgery technique that is performed to take away the look of saggy eyelids and puffiness beneath the eyes. This type of laser eyelid surgery is different than typical plastic surgery in that it is not as invasive and is done on the inside of the eyelid rather on the outside. During the procedure, which is performed under a local anesthetic, extra fat, muscle, and skin is cut away with the laser. This extra tissue is what causes the bags or the droopiness to the eyelids.
Why the Distinction between Blepharoplasty for Men and Women?
Male blepharoplasty is becoming more and more popular. Not only can it get rid of sagginess in the upper eyelids and under eye puffiness, the procedure can be used to stop certain vision issues by correcting folds of skin on the upper eyelids that hang over the eyes. But why do we make the distinction of “male blepharoplasty” from blepharoplasty for women? The answer is that the techniques used for men are subtly different than those meant for women.
If blepharoplasty is performed on men exactly as it is on women , it can result in a man’s eyes appearing round like a dolls. This is the typical result for women after blepharoplasty and is the result they want. Because of this possibility, men are concerned about maintaining their masculine image after the surgery. There are definite differences in men’s and women’s faces that need to be considered when performing male blepharoplasty.
· With the upper eyelid of a man, the crease is lower than in a woman’s eyelid. Also, a man’s eyebrow is more level, whereas a woman’s has more of an arch. These natural features of a man’s eyes should be preserved during the blepharoplasty procedure.
· The appearance of a man’s eyelid changes from the way it looks when he is young. Surgeons need to be careful not to over correct the appearance of the eyelid so that the man’s eyes look to young for the rest of his face.
The Need for Male Blepharoplasty
More average men are using this procedure to correct their eyes. Celebrities have these things done all the time to keep their youthful appearance. But the average businessman has begun to understand the importance of their image in being successful at their job. The eyes are usually the first things that someone sees when they meet. When a man is trying to make an impression on a prospective client, a permanent tired look from droopy eyelids and bags is not the first impression most men want to convey.
